Hello my friends and happy holidays!
Are you currently single, or perhaps married/dating during these holidays and feeling unfulfilled or even depressed?
I can relate.
Before 2017, I can remember not really looking forward to the holiday season. Somehow I always found myself feeling depressed even though I desperately wanted to be content. It’s not that I didn’t have a family to spend the holidays with because my previous years I either had a boyfriend, and was actually married for four of those years until we got divorced.
I know this might sound silly to some of you, but I always felt the need to be in a relationship throughout the holidays even if I still felt “alone” through them while being in one. How could we not though when singleness is often overlooked by most people and sometimes even the church. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my cheesy Hallmark Christmas movies even throughout the summer time, but Christmas or holidays in general are not all about romance as it’s promoted in commercials, billboards, movies, sales etc.
It wasn’t until 2016-2017 that I began a more intimate relationship with God. I actually didn’t realize or think I could ever have such a close relationship with Him as I do now. And to be fully honest with you, these past two years of being single have been the most eyeopening and heart healing for me. Being single this season at 27 has once again been a gift and a huge blessing from God because I continue to learn what advent is all about.
In fact, before the season began, I came across an advent devotional called “Unwrapping the Names of Jesus” by Asheritah Ciuciu, which has not only allowed me to look forward to Christmas, but also to refresh my memory of whom Jesus is and how much more I can learn of Him and from Him.
Jesus Christ is our greatest gift and our light in the darkness. He is the Alpha and the Omega. Our beginning and our end. He is the Joy of this world. There’s no question to why the Christmas lights on our trees, the streets and buildings give us joy when we see them light up because they too, are reminders of the beauty of light in the darkness.
“The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.”
~John 1:9
“I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.” ~Luke 2:10
In heaven, Jesus sits on the throne go grace, ready to hear our prayers and assist us in our time of need; He sympathizes with our weaknesses because He Himself was tempted in every way, just as we are, yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15-16). Because Jesus is our high priest, we no longer need anyone else to intercede between us and God. We have direct access to the Father through Jesus, and He stands willing and ready to help us in our time of need.
Father, thank You for the gift of Jesus, my savior. Thank you for the love and grace you freely give me and forgive me for my pride and self-centeredness. Lord, I pray to have the eyes of my heart and my ears opened to receive what you want to say to me. Nothing is unknown to You, even when I wonder what my career or anything in my future will look like. Help me to trust in You, not just at the beginning of my journey, but every day until the very end. Amen
Trust God, and Do Good 🙂
Feliz Navidad!!!
