One of the most common question we ask ourselves throughout our lives is “what is my purpose in life?” How could it not be so common if we get asked it at a very young age before we even really get to “explore” life on our own, right? Parents, family members, teachers and friends try to figure out for us what we should become. Do I want to be a firefighter or a stay home wife? The options are endless!
Growing up, I always wanted to be a wife and work as a hairdresser or in an office where I could dress up and wear heals and cute outfits. Well, I did end up becoming a wife at the age of eighteen to eventually divorce after five years, I became a hairdresser although I consider myself a barber since my clientele is 90% male, and no, I never worked at an office, but I do get to dress up and wear my heals on Sunday’s. Anyway, this isn’t the point of this blog 😉
As I journey this new life with God, I continue to appreciate more of who I am. I’m beyond grateful for all my struggles and failures, and yes, including my failed romantic relationships; divorce and broken engagement. All of the self-help books and podcasts that helped me achieve my goals served a purpose. But what happens when we reach our goals? What then? Are we fully satisfied? We definitely can be, but our job title or marital status doesn’t define who we are…
I had come across a book a few times now that people have mentioned to me in different occations and it even appeared on my kitchen table a while back. Weird, I know! So I began to listen to it in English version at the gym this morning and then read the hard copy I had found in my house which is in Spanish. Cheers to these next forty days of discovering my purpose!!!
Life is not about us. It’s about the one who created us.
God chose us from even before we were conceived and only He knows why He created us. But in order for us to know what our purpose in life is, we must ask the one whom created us.
“In Him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, so that we who were first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of His glory.” ~Ephesians 1:11-12
“For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities- all things were created through Him and for Him.” ~Colossians 1:16
With this being said, when we have questions about a certain object we purchased and don’t understand how to properly use it, we go to the one whom invented it, right? 😉
Honestly, we all have dreams and aspirations. I know I desire and pray for a future husband who can lead me to Christ, I long for my new project I’ve been envisioning for a while, but I know God has His best interest for me and that He has an even bigger plan for my life that I can’t even imagine. But it’s all in His perfect timing. I know He has a great plan for YOUR life too.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
