“My son, pay attention to my words; listen closely to my sayings. Don’t lose sight of them; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and health to one’s whole body.” ~Proverbs 4:20-22
Although we are eternal beings, God created us with bodies. He tells us that we will have glorified bodies for all eternity, where there will be no more sadness or pain- only joy. However, right now, we live in a fallen world where our joy is sometimes crushed and our bodies sometimes break.
A few years ago, I made a lot of choices based on how I felt and what would give me moments of pleasure and unfulfilled satisfaction. The fruit of my choices were most times negative due to my negative mind set. I always thought I wasn’t good enough in many areas of my life, or that I shouldn’t do a certain thing because someone else was always better than I was, of course, according to my own judgement. But I was always judging myself poorly and I allowed those nagging thoughts to simply rule my life.
The problem is that no one really knows how to live life well if we don’t have the right rules to follow…
“Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.” ~Proverbs 29:18
I didn’t grow up as a Christian so believe me, having to learn new habits as I leave the old ones which I “thought” were right in its time hasn’t been easy. As i’ve been studying the book of Proverbs recently, i’ve learned about what God hates and what He loves. Which means I must love/hate the same things. As I was caught up learning these things, I realized that I wasn’t just learning to love/hate the same things for me to keep a lookout, but I was also realizing that this was a reality check on myself! My sinful nature quickly went to judge others before I checked myself first!
Am I living up to these expectations God wants from me? Am I representing Him well?
The point is, God wants us to have and enjoy our lives regardless of our circumstances. He longs for us to keep our focus on Him alone and if He does is because when we don’t it becomes so easy to become self-centered. We lose sight of Him as we try to take control of our situations and other people as well.
How can we have real faith if we don’t learn to take those negative thoughts captive and tag them as for what they are? A positive mind is a healthy mind.
“A man’s spirit will endure sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear?” ~Proverbs 18:14
Yes, it’s hard to control our thoughts, believe me I struggle with them every day! But God is merciful and He wants us to ask Him for guidance in every area of our lives. Get wisdom and understanding through Gods Word (Prov. 3:13). He already knows what we desire. We simply need to do our part and spend time with Him and learn to receive correction in order for us to endure all things and have a joyful life…
Trust God, and Do Good… 😉
