Being a Christian for no more than two years at the age of 26, I’ve had many questions as to “how do I hear God’s voice?” I always heard people say things like; “God told me…” or “He spoke to me about…” But I couldn’t understand how exactly it happened. This question would always only be in my mind, but because I would feel dumb if i’d asked it out loud.

Being a Christian does not mean that life will be so much easier. It is about knowing who Jesus is and being in relationship with him. We surrender our hearts, our minds, and ALL of the details of our lives. We make a choice to give ourselves to Jesus and we commit to a lifelong series of choices to make him Lord by applying His commands to every area of life. And the Holy Spirit is the one who enables us to become like Jesus, but in order to hear from God, we must spend time in His Word daily.

Imagine if in this world we didn’t have laws and regulations. How would we know what’s right from wrong, right? So, if we didn’t spend time in the Word of God, then, how would we know when He speaks to us???

Spending time with God and making him priority in our lives sets a firm foundation on how we are to live.

“Every word of God proves true; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.” ~Proverbs 30:5

God’s word never changes. He speaks truth to us and He tells us what He hates and what He loves so that we can change our ways. And I get it, change is hard and often uncomfortable. But if we’re always complaining about our lives then what else can we do? Obviously we can’t wakeup and change in an instant, we will always fail, but failure is a part of life in order for us to keep leaning on God and learning from him.

God is our rock (Deuteronomy 32:4), and His word helps us set a firm foundation in our lives. I’ve personally learned that not only does God speak through his word, but He uses people, situations, and many more things to get our attention. It’s all up to us if we want to listen and obey…
