I’m Saved! Now What?

Okay, so now you accepted Jesus as your Lord, but now what?

As baby Christians, it is very easy for us to think that just because we became baptized, and are now fired up for this new life, we don’t need to do anything else and God will take care of the rest with no pain or discomfort. We begin to pray our way out to ask for as many things as we want for ourselves in our new lives. Of course, there is nothing wrong with praying about the things we want, but we need to be careful to not become self-centered or selfish. That’s certainly not the point of becoming a Christian.

“For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.” ~Romans 14:7-8

Dying to self is the best thing anyone could ever commit themselves to. Even if it begins with selfish reasons, as long as you abide in the word of God, you quickly begin to notice a transformation of your mind that travels to your heart wanting it to do all of the things that Christ does for us. It almost seems dangerous to know God’s word because of the fact that we can somehow lose ourselves in it, and leaving behind what we “thought” at one point that we couldn’t live without. As you study scripture and submit to God, desires begin to change. For example: career paths, the kind of friendships you’re drawn to, the kinds movies you watch, romantic relationships you seek, to even wanting to quit the job you’re in!

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” ~Galatians 2:20

There’s no mistake for anyone who once decided to become baptized. God chose YOU!

As I continue to learn about God’s word, I continue to finally accept the person who I am. Our past had a purpose, our present has a direction, and our end will be rewarded. Anyone who started off on the wrong path can definitely change direction right where they are, as long as they decide to follow Jesus and submit themselves to Him. God does not call the equipped, He equips the called…

“For the love of Christ controls us,… and He died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for Him who for their sake died and was raised.” ~2 Corinthians 5:14-15

Don’t you wish to have a more peaceful and joyful life regardless of your circumstances? God is the way, and the only way, no such thing as in-between. It’s for our benefit that we seek Him and abide in Him. Who else would we run to if human flesh always fails? God never fails us even if we don’t receive what we asked for, but do you know why? Because He gives us what we NEED instead, and it’s always better than what we can ever imagine.

Trust God, and DO good 😉

I know way too many christians who are self centered and selfish. they use the word of god to push their own agendas. I love that you are advocating otherwise. Keep that kind heart soft.

  7. I am not a christian , but the appeal to leave yourself in the hands of God is a lot like they see in our Geeta – do your Karma and stop worrying about the consequences .

  9. I’ve always wanted to read this kind of article. I am also a Christian and I can relate to the topic. Once you got saved and accepted the Lord as your Saviour, we need to continually do good it’s not a reason to commit mistake. Probably it’s hard at first but gradually you can.

    1. Right!?!? And it’s never enough! Even as believers who have been actively studying scripture most times see the same scripture in a whole new way the second or third time around and it continues to mold us into what God wants for us….thank you!
