To Live Free is…

Today I went on a seven mile bike ride at a forest preserve. It was my first time riding my bike in a forest for such a long distance on  my own. As  I was enjoying the breeze and admiring the view, many thoughts came into my mind and I found myself comparing life situations to my experience on the trail.

Even though I was super excited to do this on my own, I did feel some fear the first three miles. I would hear noises in the bushes and not as many people where around as I would have expected. But then little by little I ignored those sounds and simply kept looking forward and admiring the slight change of color of the leaves on the trees and the curves of the paved trail. Some people I would come across would smile and wave and others just simply pass by on the opposite direction. By the fifth mile I was feeling very relaxed and even got off my bike to snap some pictures of the beauty of nature. Once I finally finished my seventh mile I was so happy for my accomplishment, but excited for the revelations that came into mind.

You see, life is actually scary in the beginning when you try to live life alone. To live free is to live having faith in God that He does have a great plan for us, and hope in the life that you have always desired. Trusting God in all the “curves” and “noises” that we experience and hear about in our lives is real freedom. Just like on my seven mile bike ride, I came across people; some were friendly and some just minded their own business. Well, isn’t that what happens almost on a daily basis? Most people we encounter are just in our lives to pass  right through. Some are there to encourage us, while others might try to hold us back. But one thing I know is that life can not be lived freely without the help of God!

Through my walk with Christ, I’ve experienced many new things. Situations keep happening, but my reactions are very different from before. Now that i’m learning about Christ and practicing His instructions, it’s been fun to see how much more confident I’ve become. Living life with Christ definitely does not mean that it’s easier by any means! It’s actually hard changing old habits. But just like only riding your bike with friends for fun, to riding a seven mile trail alone is out of your comfort zone, it can turn out to be a lot more fun and rewarding than you think.

How do you experience real freedom? When you realize that God is in control of your life and not you. Have plans! Make goals and accomplish them! But don’t wait until you meet your needs to be happier! Live life now and be happy through the process because in the end it’s not what you think you want, it’s what God knows what’s best for us! His timing is always better then ours. “Glance at your problems, but stare at Jesus.” -Joyce Meyer Life will continue to happen, but we only get one chance to make it right. To be honest, most of the time in my writing I’m preaching to myself, but why not share the love of Christ. Trust God and do good!

“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now in springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” ~Isaiah 43:1

I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” ~Psalm 91:1

For in the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” ~Romans 1:17

“I have told you this so that my joy might be in you and your joy might be complete.” ~John 15:11
