Why study the Bible? You know what’s interesting? I asked myself that question many times in the past. It was so un common, especially for young people (so I thought) that no one really would fully want to study the Bible. Why? It’s very complicated to understand anyway! Truth is, we complicate it more than we think. Just like we naturally complicate everything else in our lives.

“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”   ~Psalm 121:1-2

If only you could take a moment to reflect and look back into your past and notice how far you’ve already come then, you would actually notice how many times God has helped you move on and continue living with hope for better days. In fact, knowing that God created heaven and earth should gives us a more reason to study His word and trust that He will guide us through everything and anything. Yes, this world is crazy but we are part of it and have some influence in it too. 

“Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than the gain from silver and her profit better than gold.” ~Proverbs 3:13

Why wouldn’t you want profit and wisdom right?! And trust me, God will make sure you understand His word. From my short experience of actually following God, I can honestly say that the more I learn and practice His word, the more I realize that He really has a great sense of humor. There has been times that I thought I had Him figured out so I would go about my day practicing what I’ve learned, but as soon as I messed up and went back to an old habit, He shows up and makes sure that I knew I need to spend more time with Him.

Studying the word of God takes a lot of time and practice but it is very much worth it! In the beginning, it is very easy to give up, just like anything else that is new to you. But, when it’s about your life and you notice that you are loosing hope for a better future, you will do whatever you can to make time to study.

My best advice on how and what to study is by studying on the areas in which you notice a pattern of struggle  For example: I personally struggle on staying positive for the most part and comparing myself to others, in this case, I study on the mind and thoughts. Another one of my struggles, which also involves my thoughts, is relationships, so I study on what a wife should bring to the table and what traits a godly husband and wife should have. The Bible isn’t just  a book, it’s instructions for life! I want to have a better life over all, and I know you do too…

Our problems are like diseases that we can spread out to the world, and the Bible is the cure. Imagine spreading out all the goodness we receive from it… Trust God, and do good!
